In serving Dampfnudels, what are the most common accompaniments?
How is a Dampfnudel prepared? What is the dough formed into?

Hello mmng23,
Dampfnudels can be of the savory variety or they can be of the sweet type. In each case they are made slightly differently. When being served with sweet accompaniments Dampfnudeln is made by steaming the dough balls in milk that has been sweetened and combined with vanilla and butter. In the case of the savory type it is steamed in water, butter and salt. Once the water in the vessel used for steaming has dried up, the butter left over will heat up the bottom of the dough balls causing them to become golden brown and crusty. Savory Dampfnudels can be eaten with potato soup, Sauerkraut and Goulash, while the sweet variety can be eaten with jam, vanilla custard sauce, caramel sauce or plum sauce. The dough is shaped into balls for this dish and if you want to know how to make it, check this link http://www.bakingandbooks.com/2007/12/09/dumph-noodle-anyone/ for a recipe, this link has another recipe http://library.ndsu.edu/grhc/foods/recipe/dampfnudelen2.html
