I'm thinking about changing my avatar - what kind of picture should I use?

Hey crew!

So I'm thinking about changing my Mahalo Avatar, at least for a little while, and I'm giving my community a chance to suggest pictures they'd like me to use. Here are a couple things you can specify:

Age - I just turned 27. Do you want a super-recent picture, one from college, high school, baby picture etc?
What I'm doing in the picture - should it be a picture of me in my college band at 21? A picture of me as a boy scout at 12? Me in a talent show at 17? My wedding at 25?
Who I'm with - a picture of just me? My family? Me and my darling wifey?

Tell me what kind of picture I should use - I look forward to trying out some new avatars!

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Reflecting both Mahalo's (and yours I presume) vision, combining with your latest social gaming addiction:

A guitar character avatar:

Or maybe:

In all, I would like to suggest a stylish avatar, which does not reflect a real-life image. Somehow, all staff seem to have a drawn/generated avatar (except for Jason, of course!)

Hi, @coreymac! Actually, I'd prefer if you can just change it to a very recent and a close-up photo like mine, haha. It's because I always want to see who I'm talking to. I love seeing people's faces, I enjoy it esp. here in Mahalo more than with mysterious ones (everyone has a choice or it's an individual's preference, too). Besides, you look good!

Honestly? I vote for the first picture you posted. Because this is how I (We) want to see you in 10 years. I really think this is you....And the way We (Mahalo) know you....The first pic describes you perfectly...As a team man...;) And in a team...You need at least two players...

OMG....I'm 3 years older ....HAHAHHA....this is funny!!!!

As a general rule for myself, I like to choose avatars that represent an ideal that I strive to embody. Whenever I log in, I see a picture that motivates me, inspires me, or just reminds me of who I want to be. Some avatars I've chosen have been of animals that possess admirable qualities (squirrels, wolves), myself in a karate gi, a chess piece (knight), and a group of hometown friends.

As for you, what do you need to be reminded of? What ideal needs to be reinforced?

I'm partial to the guitargasm. It's a great way to remember why and even HOW you enjoy playing music. However, capturing both the posture and the facial expression in a tiny avatar could prove to be quite difficult. Apart from superimposing your face over the guitar (hilarious, but impractical), there doesn't appear to be much you can do with it.

I suppose I have no real suggestions, since it's a personal choice for you to make.

I've actually grown quite fond of the "Half Core(y)-Three Fret" pic.
It shows who you are and what you love equally.

If you have to update it... I'd go for something that still shows your face (even another half pic layout would do) and also shows that you are the Community Manager.

Out of all the pictures you posted, I think the Toga would work best.
(all the other ones are precious and sweet, but are more personal)

Plus your expression is a perfect "really... REALLY?!" look. That might come in handy here.
Also, your choice of toga states that you are kinda in charge here in the Republic of Mahalo.
I'd call it the "Animal House Community Manager" look.

Go for it! (you could even slip in a guitar if needed!)

It depends on what you're doing online. If you're doing business, looking for work, then use a professional head shot type photo. If you are social networking, having fun put up a photo of yourself that says what you're about, fun, music, etc. If you are gaming use a gaming type avatar, some kind of cartoon character that says you. Gravatar.com lets you manage multiple avatars for multiple email account so if you are doing all of those personality and activity types online thats where you can manage them all via the different emails you should be using for them all. Do not mix business and pleasure online, use different email and avatars. Many sites will pull in your gravata that matches your account email so you can keep things consistent across multiple accounts online.

I like the cookie monster hat one.... While the toga is funny -- may scare some ((half nekkid guy, omg!)) LOL

Something fun, funny. Something that reflects your personality. If its of just you, then by all means... If its of you and wifey, again, all up to you!!! What do you want to represent? Responsible? Funny? Young? mature? immature? LOL
Theres endless possibilities!

the question is:
Who are you?
How do you view your place at Mahalo?
What is important to you in life AND at Mahalo?

answer that and I can whip up a real avatar for you...

For some reason I always think of Macaroni & cheese when I see your name (sorry but the word MAC does it.) So how about adding some silliness to your photo and use the one below?

Interesting you ask this question today because I just found this link that talks about types of profile pics...

http://gawker.com/5669005/

Now you can tell what your profile pic says about you! And your options so far are definitely in these categories!
