I'm not even in the business.....can someone tell me why there are so many stupid endings to movies?

If you are talking about American movies, it is because we need the happy ending and we cannot stand to leave things unresolved. Take a look at some foreign films, on average they do not all have everything tied up with a bow. For example 'Akira' and 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon'.
