I'm hosting a beer party. What are some of your favorite beer/food combos?

Tip for best answer: M$0.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Beer and Mexican food, beer and bratwurst, beer and pizza, beer and beef stew(as long as the stew is beer based, not wine based), beer and corned beef.

It might be easier to list the foods that we don't like to eat with beer...the only one I can think of is ice cream. (Although, I did have a friend in college that claimed to enjoy "beer floats.")

If you are looking for more specific types of beer/food combinations, I think a strong porter or stout goes well with a steak. The source I list seems to agree...

Hot wings, very spicy.
Chocolate -- plain, unadulterated, no caramel, nuts or anything, just squares, milk or dark. Hershey's Godiva, Russell Stovers, etc. I swear by it.

I live in Japan now and the usual combo for beer here is Edamame (boiled soybeans).

You can find out more here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edamame

Basically, you get a package of frozen soybeans (in the US, they are usually found in the health food section), still in the pod and dump them in a pot of boiling water (with some salt).

Then after boiling until they are soft (sampling a couple is my favorite way to check if they are ready), you pour in a bowl and sprinkle a bit more salt.

To eat you simply pop the beans out with your fingers or suck them out and then toss the shell in a bowl.

I would suggest them as a side item to go along with one of the other suggestions.
