I'm having problems learning twisting.

I'm a Leftie in gymnastics on floor anyways. But when Twisting out of skills I twist better to my right. My coaches think it would be better for me to twist to the left, due to the fact that I am a leftie. We have tried drills but they don't work well. Although I don't have to twist for another year they think it would be helpful for me to know how to twist the 'correct way'. Does anyone have any ideas? I can fill you in with more if you would like.

Well it's good to know you have a full year to learn, here are some helpful websites that you can study, maybe they offer some tips your coach hadn't thought of.

It is definitely better to do all skills on the same side. If twisting left is proving too difficult, try doing all your floor skills on the right for a week and see if you can adjust. I used to do perfect leaps on my left (the only skill on my left) and was freaked out about doing them on my right, but I adjusted very quickly. Of course this is only a suggestion that you should bring up with your coaches. If they feel it is not good to try the other side, try mixing up the drills or create new ones for yourself.
