I'm going to a picnic: what should I bring?

Out of the following options, which would you be happy to see at a picnic and why?:
1. Jello poke cake
2. Chex mix
3. Breadsticks and Mariana sauce
4. Chocolate, peanut butter cookies

I was thinking pasta salad but figured that everyone else would have that as a first thought as well, so I want to steer away from the typical dishes.

My first choice would have to be number 3. Breadsticks are delicious, and I don't believe that I have ever seen them at a picnic. If you have some extra time, you can even make a variety of breadsticks, which would be really awesome. Like, have some garlic, some cheese, some cinnamon and sugar (like the dessert ones at pizza hut). That way you are basically guaranteed to have at least one variety everyone likes (and if I were there, 3 varieties I would like).
My second choice would have to be chex mix. I don't think I have ever met anyone who doesn't like chex mix, it is just an amazing tasting snack food. Something creative you could do with that is make a normal variety and a spicy variety (just add a couple teaspoons of a hot sauce you like to the recipe). My sister did that and it was incredible tasting, although I must admit that I just tend to like spicy foods in general. Anyways, have fun with the picnic :-)

Jello is over done; Chex Mix, you can just buy at the store now; and cookies are unhealthy. (Although I do love Chex Mix and chocolate, peanut butter cookies)

My choice is Bread Sticks and Marinara. I kinda feel that this choice could stand out as a favorite at the picnic!

Choosing the menu
or set of foods including snacks and drinks, again carefully, which your family may wish to bring along to the picnic site is another important consideration. Complaints about how the food tastes is almost always a sure spoiler. Your exciting day can turn drab instead. To prevent this, let your family, children included, have a say on what kind of foods would be best to bring to the picnic. This way you give your family members added stake in the activity, and therefore it should help enhance color and life to your family picnic.

While a nice suggestion this is a company picnic with many restrictive diets, hence the list of 4 options that I kindly requested you pick one.

Roast Beef and Blue
Start with whole-grain rolls. Smear blue cheese on one side and prepared horseradish on the other. Add red onion and thin-sliced roast beef, pork or lamb. Pack! lettuce and tomato on the side. Potato chips are mandatory

Chocolate, peanut butter cookies is the best option!!! Everyone has a sweet tooth and what's more perfect than cookies at a picnic? Food can get messy, it spoils easily and it stinks. Desert on the other hand is the perfect alternative. It's delicious and yummy. I would not pass that chance up!

PS:
Another option bring Fondue to a picnic, especially if you are there your significant other. It can create a very romantic atmosphere. You can get an fondue heater (inexpensive at Walmart) bulk chocolate, along with some fruits.

Hi #1 would be my choice Jello Poke Cake. Of course you would need to keep in ice chest until serving. Everyone will love this light cool dessert. I would not worry about it getting too warm it will be gone so quick it won't have time. Enjoy your picnic. Make it in a 9 x 13 inch pan and it will be easy to serve. Recipe follows:

Jello Poke Cake
1 pkg. white cake mix
1 pkg. (3 oz.) Jello, lemon or red
1 c. boiling water
1 c. cold water
Cool Whip

Instructions
Prepare cake mix as directed on package. Bake in 9 x 13 inch pan. Cool 15 minutes. Poke warm cake with a fork at half inch intervals. Spoon warm gelatin over cake. Chill 3 to 4 hours. Top with whipped topping. Serves 12.

Bring breadsticks with mariana sauce. I usually notice an overload of desserts at picnics. I love dessert but everyone seems to bring a dessert.

My pick would be number 3 also. Breadsticks are not only delicious but can be made in several different flavors. One that I have found many people enjoying is a called a Bosco stick they are filled with cheese you can either make them yourself or purchase them. Here is a site that shows the many flavors and ingredients that are available. http://www.boscospizza.com/pages/bosco_sticks.html.
Not only do people love bread sticks and Mariana sauce , but they are very filling and delicious for children and adults.

Instead of the Jello Poke cake, you could bring a Better Than Sex Cake. It will outshine any other dessert at the picnic.

Breadsticks with marinara are an interesting choice as well-- as there probably won't be a duplicate.

Have fun at the picnic!

My choice would be 3. Breadsticks and Mariana sauce, just because well YUMMY! Lol. I would be stoked, Yummy yummy yummy. Plus it is unique while the others sound like stuff that other people would bring. Plus they are all simple-ish thing to do. But Breadsticks would just be great. Now I want to go to your Picnic and eat Bread sticks with Mariana sauce. Lol, great I am hungry now.

Anyways some more thoughts about Picnics, Hope this is ok. Just wanted to give my two cents worth for others who come to this question looking for ideas.

Simplicity is seriously what picnics are all about. So it should be easy. Almost like snack foods. So remember to pack a simple meal, don't overwhelm yourself with choices. You are outside enjoy being outside and not worry to much about the food choices. I am taking a guess that you are going to be in a simi big or even a big group. Or just a group period. So, you must think what would be something that I could bring that others might not bring. Hmm, my first thought is something from a recipe... here is a good site that I came across. http://www.the-picnic-site.com/recipes-for-picnics.html
What I thought was cool about this site was it gives you a choice on the left hand side which has things like BBQ Picnic, Kids Picnic, Family Picnic, Healthy Picnic, and much more. I thought this was cool because you could look for ideas for the right type of picnic that fits you. I looked through the site and it basically gives you ideas on what to do. Oh my goodness, how funny, this site agrees with my simplicity thought. I hope you enjoy your picnic, Be Safe. (^_^)V

P.S. now I wanna have a Private Romantic Picnic with my boyfriend, but to many mosquitos where we live so he might not go for it lol.

Lol, aww you came up with an idea for me too, you are awesome. Thanks. Right now that's a bad idea, we have tons of fleas, plus we just got 4 more kittens that were thrown down by a river near my house. Evil people leaving kitties out in the country, Luck for them I am an animal lover and they have a temporary home outside. Plus I just lost my kitten because he got, well he jumped out of my dads truck, and hit his head. Poor baby, he did not jump out before my dad started moving. And then 2 days later the other 2 kittens went missing, another 2 days went by one came home with part of its tail messed up. I brought him in the house, his tail was not bleeding just missing fur. He got fleas everywhere. 3 days later the other 4 kittens who are must smaller appeared. The kitten with fur missing became friends with them really quick, I think its because he missed his real brothers. Lol. But very cute idea. Might have to think of something similar, maybe his house. Sorry for the long story.

P.S. Everyone loves Number Three. Lol you so should do it! Yummy.
