I'm a business executive and would like to know how I can check into a hotel/resort using a different name.

I would pay for the resort myself (or co. pays if on business trip).
I have had issues lately and am more apprehensive of personal security as well as any unnecessary expenses to my company.
Tip for best answer: M$0.25
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

These suggestions may violate local laws. Definitely in Los Angeles and other areas of California.

As an example, the
City of Los Angeles has an ordinance requiring all hotels to
keep records of, among other things, their guests' names,
addresses, vehicle information, and method of payment. (Los
Angeles Municipal Code Section 41.49.) Government
identification is required from any guest paying cash or renting
the room for less than 12 hours, and the hotel must record the
identification card's number and expiration date. The records
must be kept for 90 days. Of particular significance to this
bill, the records must be made available to any city police
officer for inspection at any time, regardless of whether the
police have any reason to suspect criminal activity.

You must rely on the security policies of the hotel. If these are security concerns, discuss this in advance with the manager.

If you're just trying to cover up an affair...can't help you there. Have the other party rent the room instead.

In uncodified intent language, Los Angeles believes that requiring
hotels to keep the specified information and making it available
to the police will be "a significant factor in reducing crime in
hotels and motels."

Your question is bordering on a request for advice on illegal activity.

I believe it is the law, in most places, that hotels must obtain and record the name each person who rents a room.

If you want to be anonymous have the company book the hotel room and provide the instructions that all charges are to be sent to them. When my hotel bills were paid directly by the company hotels did not seem to care who I was. If all charges will be paid by the company there is no reason for them to ask for a credit card.

For security reasons, a hotel is not going to allow you to pay in person for a room with a credit card which does not have your name on it.

For your personal trips you can form your own company and have your personal company pay your hotel bills.

Power of suggestion. Just show them your card and say the fake name and they may believe you and just check the picture.

Because the credit card they ask of you will be in your real name, I think the only way around it would be to explain your situation and request the fake name. I also think you can ask them not to reveal that you are staying there and refuse all phone calls.
If you don't have to use a credit card then it's obviously much easier.
I don't see why they wouldn't oblige. I mean, celebrities do it all the time!
