If you're looking to replace Exchange complete in a company of ~700 employees, what is the best free open-source solution(s)?

Tip for best answer: M$0.25
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

There are two options available which my company helped 2 listed company with 5000+ staffs to replace their exchange.
The first option is @mail (or: atmail) which is an Australian based software
The second option is zimbra.

Both work great but need expertise on Linux platform to build a proper solution.
Compare with MS Exchange, the hardware requirement is much less complex and the TCO significantly reduce.
