If your cat is expecting kittens do you find the place for her to have them, or will she want to find some terrible place to deliver them?

Congrats, Grandma!

Give it a shot - put blanket in closet, door propped partially open. If she expresses disinterest, put her back. Eventually it will be the magic moment and she ain't goin' nowhere. Make sure the blanket is not an heirloom!!

Sometimes, first-time mothers get scared - it hurts, they are frightened, maternal instinct has not kicked in yet.

If you are asleep or absent at the golden moment, you may be out of luck. If you are around, be persistent. Also, stand by with a warm wet washcloth to help clear those tiny noses in case the licking doesn't kick in right away.

Keep us posted!

Well, even though they will give birth wherever they are comfortable at the time, it doesn't hurt to try and give them a place that is out of the way and private.

Perhaps in a closet or uninterrupted part of the house, I would place a shallow box lined with an old blanket or soft towels. If she is partial to one particular room or area, I would put it there, and hope that she finds it. I have had a few cat in the past that refused any type of assistance with her nesting place. She chose my laundry basket, clean clothes and all. And since I was sleeping, I was a bit late. However, years later I had learned my lesson. If you take away all the obvious places, such as your laundry, she may find your little bed the nest place.

Good luck with the kittens!

I would say block off anywhere you don't want her to have them. If your laundry room, for instance, is full of little nooks and crannies where she could get in and it would be inconvenient or dangerous for her to have them there, keep that door closed. If you can, keep her inside.

Make sure she has safe places that are quiet, warm, and not often visited by people. Make sure there's water nearby, and some food, so she visits the area and hopefully decides it meets her needs.

If you can, when she starts having them, check some other areas. When our dog had puppies, she abandoned the first one and gave birth to the rest of them somewhere else. She was scared, didn't realize what was happening, or whatever, and if someone hadn't gone to take the sheets of the bed she had been on, a puppy would have died there, with the amniotic sack still covering its face. She was a first time mom, and she was sort of a lousy mom overall.

I always tried to set up a place for my cat but in my experience they don't care if you set them up a place. they've fin somewhere dark and comfy. It may or may not be a horrible place. sometimes they don't choose too badly. Closets seem to be a big choice in my old cats. Do try not to let them outside though and once they do have them don't disturb them too much.. makes mom move them often and youll end up with more than one messy spot.
