Resisting the urge to choose art films like ''My Dinner with Andre'', or ''Eraserhead'' was difficult, as I honestly believe they are quite possibly better films in every sense of the word, yet most people will not have seen them. Several good films like ''Birdy'' and ''Kiss of the Spiderwoman'' and several popular films like ''Fried Green Tomatoes'', ''Thelma and Lusie'' and ''Forrest Gump'' all made my short list, but in the end, I'm satisfied with my three choices.
3. ''Paris, Texas'' from 1984. Directed by Wim Wenders and introducing Hunter Carson, if this film had not been so appealing it could have easily been relagated to the world of art film obscurity. The Ry Cooder sound track alone is enough to make it a timeless treasure, a classic. The story is compelling, understated, and at times heartbreaking in it's stark reality. An amazing film.
2. ''Gone with the Wind'': 1939. The classic film of all classic films, it won nearly every award available in 1939, except for best song. ''Wizard of OZ'' won that for Judy Garland's "Somewhere Over the Rainbow".
1. ''Casablanca'', 1942. Career best performances for two of the best, Humphry Bogart and Ingrid Bergman, Casablanca has more memorable scenes, and more quoted lines than just about any movie. This movie has it all, and you will want to watch it again an again. Here's lookin at you, kid.
