If you were diagnosed with a disease in which you had a 2% chance of living past 4 years, would you...

Would you marry your girlfriend possibly burdening her with hundreds of thousands of hospital bills, would you finish your last 3 months of school, would you try and pay off your credit cards. Or would you blow all your money having the time of your life like going on vacation and eating out every night, going skydiving with that slim chance you may be in that 2% of making it.
Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Always live your best life. You might get hit by a bus tomorrow.

Diagnoses like these are usually pessimistic, so I certainly wouldn't do anything crazy and count on not being around for the consequences.

If I were faced with the possibility of a likely expected death, I would want to invest time and energy in the relationships in my life. I'd try to make amends and ask forgiveness from people I have hurt. I'd pray for strength to forgive those who hurt me and let them know I forgive them. I'd write/call/email/visit all those people I've been meaning to write/call/email/visit. I'd try to do things that would help people and make them happy, because that's the surest way to be happy & contented myself. I'd keep working unless I hated my job. I'd finish school--I like school and it's good to finish things.

Wow, this is really getting to be a syrupy trite answer. Sorry!
It reminds me of a country song called "Live Like You Were Dying."
I hate country music.

LOL, maybe you and I were wrong, maybe it PREVENTS disease???

I try not to be narrow-minded and can acknowledge the quality in selected country songs, but, overall, blech!

If large quantities of country music were proven to lower one's chances of acquiring disease, I might just take my chances and avoid it anyway. Like smokers (also blech!) who know it's not good for them but do it anyway.

P.S. I don't know what your spiritual background is, but I prayed anyway for you and your people before I sent this--for wisdom & clarity in decisions, for strength to withstand the stress, and of course for healing & a good medical team.
If you're someone who would appreciate more prayers, feel free to direct question me and I'd be happy to hit my knees for you and yours.
Blessings!

If it were me, I would marry, payoff my debts, and talk with those whom I offended.

I work with cancer patient's and this situation crops up on a regular basis. My boss usually encourages people to take that last vacation, go to that reunion, and meet with their family. This type of diagnosis usually gives people an opportunity to get their life in order. Marry the girl; finish school (unless something physically interferes with it). I wouldn't blow all your money, especially if you do get married. If you are in that 2% (and I have seen it happen) you want to be happy to be alive, not pissed that you are broke.

I have known people who have had diagnosis that didn't turn out as Bleak as first thought. So if you are in that situation marry your girlfriend.
Enjoy your life no one has a guarantee even a healthy person can have an Accident and loose there life by no fault of there own. I think that it really depends on the disease and the persons circumstances . A person has to make the decision based on those circumstances.
