If you were about to be stabbed in the stomach area, would it be safer to tighten or relax your muscles?

Would it do more damage to your abdominal muscles if you flexed it or would it be safer to let the knife the 'slide' right in (in some sense)?

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

While I agree the difference wouldn't be noticeable (getting stabbed in the stomach is going to be pretty unpleasant either way), I know that doctors always tell you to relax your muscles when they are inserting a needle. When you tense up during a shot, you're more likely to have bruising and soreness.

Although I'm not a doctor, I'd assume it'd be better to relax your muscles for these same reasons. It just might not be a noticeable difference, and it might be impossible to have that mental control when you're about to be stabbed.

It's a natural response to tense up the area that is about to be assaulted. I don't think the average person would be able to relax in a situation such as that. In my opinion, it probably wouldn't matter either way. I don't think muscle tissue, flexed or unflexed, is a match for a sharp knife.
