If you were a parent of a baby, would you buy the new Pampers Designer Diapers?

Next week, Pampers is debuting a new kind of diaper and they are calling them “designer diapers”. Supposedly these diapers are supposed to be special because they were designed by fashion designer Cynthia Rowley. Rowley says “It’s the first piece of clothing your baby will ever wear and it should be special.” The suggested manufacturer price is going to be $15 for a pack of 23 diapers which to me is pretty expensive. Would you buy them if you were a parent of a baby so they could have designer diapers?

This sounds like a pretty stupid idea to me, when you buy diapers for your baby, it should be more important that the do the job they were intended for than to look like a fashion statement.

As for the comment "blah, blah, it should be special" is this intended to try and make you feel guilty if you don't buy them for the kid? Like he's going to care! As long as he's dry and comfortable that is what is more important.

I agree with cosmopinkice that babies just wearing a diaper look tacky, it's more important to dress them nicely than to waste money on a product like this.

I'm quite surprised that they have bothered to manufacture them, I can't see them being popular in an economic crisis.

This reminds me of a conversation I was just having with my best friend a few days ago. You see, Huggies came out with diaper that look like blue jeans not to long ago. We were discussing how stupid you'd have to be to buy them. She actually has a child still in diapers and said she wouldn't buy them. Honestly, I never let my son go around in just a diaper. He would have ripped it off, but that wasn't the only reason. I just think it's a bit tacky.

Really, they are just diapers, why waste money on something so silly. Instead of buying designer diapers, I'd rather buy my child some cute clothes to wear to cover the diaper up. I do believe in buying good, high quality diapers. I always used the better pampers on my son, and he never had a diaper rash. I think the plastic like ones, are a disaster. I am sure they were great when I was a baby, because it was a notch above cloth diapers.

I really wished more people would use cloth diapers. However, I can't talk because I didn't use the.

No I think it'e stupid. If you want to dress the kid put on a pair of shorts over the diapers. They are just coming out with another way to boost the price as I think in this economy alot of people have gone back to cloth. As a designer why would you lower yourself to this level? She also must be pretty desperate.

I might go out and purchase a package or two over the entire span of my baby’s first year. He/she would wear them solely for special occasions during which he/she is under-dressed enough to display only their diaper, given the outrageous price for each pack. However, I would make every effort to stick to the regular diapers as much as possible for obvious cost reasons. Sure, these designer diapers are pretty cute and a fancy way to show off your little one’s behind. There are great for hot summer days that warrant only a diaper and a tiny tee, allowing baby to crawl about with minimum amount of clothing. And many fashion-conscious parents are likely swayed with the temptation to purchase a pack or two of this adorable diapers. But I think the cost is certainly not worth investing in package after package of these fashion-conscious diapers, because in the long run paying close to $1 per diaper will get very expensive.

I am not a parent. That said, I absolutely *would* buy these. Not only are they more fun and amusing than regular diapers, but there are going to be tremendous numbers of photos taken while the child is little. Kids cost multiple hundreds of thousands of dollars to raise -each- , so I don't think the price factors in here. These are fun and interesting, and in the grand scheme of things the extra cost can be rounded down to zero.

I expect that Cynthia Rowley is going to take some heat for this, but that's okay. If this concept works, she's going to be viewed as a trailblazer. The people criticizing Rowley are the same people who whined when designers started debuting special collections for H&M.

Personally, I would not buy the diapers. I am sure there are a small percentage of people with alot of money that can afford to buy and continue to buy these diapers. But, let's face it, the majority of people nowadays are struggling financially and a more expensive diaper is not realistic.

Perhaps everyday folks will buy these diapers for special occasions, but as for an every day diaper, I doubt it.

Many of us are seeking coupons and bargain shopping, everyday. Great idea, I am just not so sure that this is the right time to launch a designer diaper.

How about launching a cheaper diaper, that works just as good as the diapers currently on the market? Those may fly off the store shelves.

I am the queen of cheap, and the cheaper, the better.

Absolutely not would I buy these new “special” diapers. I don’t care if Leonardo Davinci himself designed the things. Diapers are mostly used to go under clothing and would therefore more often than not be something that was being hidden.

Even if the designs of the diapers were being displayed because you weren’t putting pants on your baby or some other such reason I don’t think I could find a way to actually care who designed the colors and shapes that were adorning my baby’s diapers. I think this might be the silliest thing I’ve ever heard of when it comes to raising children. I can’t imagine there is going to be a huge rush for these things coming off the shelves because some big name designer is the one who came up with them and if there is, I don’t want to know about it.
