If you park your Prius for extended amounts of time will the battery die?

At what percentage rate does the batteries in a Prius deplete over time?
Tip for best answer: M$0.25

Weeks, months or years? You can park your Prius for a couple of weeks and have no issues when you return. For a couple of months, you will want to disconnect the normal car battery (12V, it's in the hatchback above the right rear tire in my 2005). If you have a situation where you will be away from your car for a year or two, then yes, battery damage is a possibility and you will want to find or hire someone to run the car every 2 or 3 months.

Also, look into a battery minder and see if it will fit your situation. I've attached a link for more information.

I have no real world experience with a lithium-run Prius, however the analog from power tools should carry over because your Prius hybrid battery isn't one big battery, it's an array of smaller batteries. For power tools in general, lithium-ion batteries will last approximately 2 to 4 times longer than "equivalent" NickelSomething batteries. It's not a certainty though as we're talking NiCd (usual power tool) and NiMH (prius).
