If you just had to make a choice between the three, which would you choose: a Christmas gift, gift card, or cash?

Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I'd choose gift. :) There's always fun in opening presents... tearing the package with a huge grin on your face, guesses that could pop into your mind while seeing the box of your present, and of course the joy of knowing that the one who gave this to you probably gave a lot of effort thinking of something he/she could give to you. :)

Cash and gift cards are like, you're giving them because you didn't want yourself think of something much better for the person or you don't know that person too well, right?

So that's it! :) I prefer gifts. No matter what it's value is, what matters is that the person who gave it to me really worked hard to give that precious gift to me. :)

I would prefer the gift card, so that I can get something I would use and appreciate. Instead of it lying around and not using it.

With the cash there is the chance that I would use it to do something else and never actually buy something for myself.

I'd pick the gift -- as long as I know it's a gift that the person took some time to pick out and that I'd have a reasonable chance of appreciating. I've gotten some terrible gifts in my life that I just know were purchased without any thought whatsoever. One year I got canned air for my birthday. You know, the kind you use to spray out keyboards and stuff. Not the best gift in the world!

In that case, I'd choose a gift certificate. At least then, it's somewhat targeted. You have to know at least something about a person to know what stores and/or restaurants that person frequents. I don't have the same hangups about cash as other people do, but I'd be more likely to spend it on something else, or not spend it at all!

I prefer getting an actual gift, even if the 'monetary value' is less than the GC of cash gift.
A present is more personal, and shows the giver has taken the time to think of something that I might actually like, and has taken the effort to actually buy it.
Don't get me wrong, I like to have money, and I have a million ways to spend it, but chances are the GC or cash will simply be added to the bank-account, and dissipate into weekly grocery spendings.
This is -in part- why Christmas is my favorite time of the year!

As for what I prefer to get from my wife, I prefer this special christmas gift :)

No contest,I'd pick the gift. It's just much more personal. My birthday is Christmas Eve so it's always been an extra special time for me,most people are very thoughtful and I generally get separate presents for both days so I just love all the cards, gifts, lights, tree and the whole scenario. The only thing that bugs me is if someone wraps a birthday gift in Christmas paper!

I love when I receive a gift that someone has made or given to me becasue they know what I love. If the person is giving out feneric gifts then a gift card would be happily received as well. Sometimes people know you like a certain store and a gift vard is aweome. but mainly I love a thoughtful gift.
