I would live in South East Asia, my roots of course. Time frame would be way before the Vietnam war, but way after the Hmong were mostly pushed out of China.

In this time the Hmong were peaceful, lived off the land, required no technological advances, and grew everything they ate and made everything they had. They didn't need 'industry', weaponry, or really much technology at all. All that was required was hard work. :)

Sorry bklynj, I didn't see this comment until now.

No I wasn't. I was born right about the 'end' of the Vietnam War. My mom and her family saw a little of the War. She was young when it started.

I state 'end' because there are still Hmong in refugeeish camps, and Hmong are still being killed after supporting American troops. Last I heard, about four years ago, Hmong genocide was still happening. About 5 years or so ago they shipped more Hmong from those refugee camps in SE Asia. It is just amazing to me, because the War 'ended' in 1975 ish. I was born in 1985. Hmong were still being killed then. From the 'end' of the war until today has been 35 years and America is still shipping over Hmong refugees.

I would want to go back to my roots in Norway and live on a farm someplace, at a time before the industrial revolution. Pretty much everyone was poor then, so I would fit in. It never gets hot there, so working outside isn't so much of a burden. The winters are long, so before the invention of electricity, everyone stayed indoors all winter and did crafts together, which sounds really cosy.

I would want to be a pioneer in the American west, in the mid-1800's. Those folks were willing to leave their old life behind for a chance at a better life. They knew how to live off the land and to create the things they needed out of what God gave them, and felt blessed for what they did have. They didn't always find the opportunities they sought, but they were bold enough to take chances.

I would live it in America and in this time period. There are so many programs the Gov has for the really poor people. The middle class was brought about by the Industrial Revolution and this was to hard a time to live in. You worked to hard for someone else to be rich. So I would want to live after Unions and the programs for the object poor came to be.

If materialistic things did not matter in my life, then I would opt to live my life on a tropical island and live in sync with nature. I would be okay with living there in this day and age, however, I do think that if i had any previous experience with today’s technology and devices available, it would make it easier for me to live there about 20 to 30 years ago. I would enjoy all that nature has to offer, the island breezes, the sandy beaches, the beautiful ocean, island wild life and local fruits and vegetation. I think living devoid of material things can certainly be an advantage and allow you to appreciate life for its fullness and in an environment where money does not matter as much.
