You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

There are quite a few stories of individuals having to make this kind of choice. Here is a link to a similar one, a boy stuck in an irrigation system on a farm:http://tinyurl.com/yg3kqqb This boy was lucky, in that the were able to reattach his arm. There were also stories about others operating heavy equipment who were trapped until they cut off an arm. It makes one wonder if perhaps tractors should be made to protect operators in the event of a rollover. Here's another, involving an Australian miner: http://tinyurl.com/yhpc42a
Here is a Wikipedia link to Aron Ralston's story, to complement the film information at Mahalo: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aron_Ralston

M$I would honestly let myself die before amputating my own limb. The pain would probably give me a heart attack, or I would have such a severe panic attack it would end me.
Now if someone else was stuck and I had to cut their limb off, that I could do, don't ask me why because I do not know. The only thing that would bother me was their screams but having worked with people who are on deaths trail, I'm used to the screams, they aren't as hurtful as they used to me.
Interesting question!
