What would YOU make if you had a 3D printer sitting around at home?

3D printers absolutely blow my mind. I saw a show about how they work, and what you can make with them, and I'm still both confused and impressed like crazy!

If you had a 3D printer - what would you make? A model of your own hand? A replica of a sword from your favorite movie? Go wild with your answers!

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I'm a huge Dr Who fan and I'd love to create my very own Dalek.

The BBC have created official Dalek blueprints and I'd use those...... I'd convert the print in Rhino to a 3D model that I could use with the printer and then I'd build a full size replica piece by piece :)

I've actually seen a full Dalek model in the house of a friend of mine. It was a prop from the show and really neat! It was sitting on the front porch, very weird but very cool..

I'd probably put mine in the living room hehehe

I have always been fascinated by the perspective works of Escher. If I had access to a 3D printer, I would recreate an Escher drawing as a 3D model and place it in a room as a focal piece in my home. There would be a specific place the viewer would have to be standing in order for the perspective to be correct, but that is true with any good art!

This is an awesome idea - I'd never heard of such a thing.

If I could make a replica of absolutely anything, I think I'd start with a replica of myself. It could be really funny to set Me2 somewhere and see how many people would be fooled. She could also be a very effective burglar deterrent by having her sitting on the couch, seeming to read a book when no one was actually home. Of course, I'd have to make this creation in many pieces and then super-glue them all together. And then figure out how to paint the thing.

Or, for a less creepy option, maybe a scaled-down version of some great architectural work. Neuschwanstein Castle, the Taj Mahal, St Basil's Cathedral, the Sphinx. No - ruins. Greek, Roman, Aztec, Incan, Turkish, Egyptian, Celtic...

I've always wished for an invention like this to happen! The first thing I would make is... clothes! (I know, shallow right?) But its true, that would be amazing- if I could design it my own, with no extra cost after the printer. Because then it would be like just going shopping. But then, I would just want to make everything, you know? "Oh, I need an extra chair here... hey, wouldn't it be lovely to have an iPad? You know, I could use some more shoes..." Anything! As long as it didn't cost extra, you could have anything! But you know, I'm pretty sure they will make each thing cost, and then the only advantage would be that you don't have to get up and go shopping! ...but of course that isnt a real advantage, because then people would be really lazy... What a mess! But anyways! I got kind of side tracked there- as I said, I would just love to make anything that I need! Oh, and, my very own designed acoustic guitar :) That would be great!

I don't think you can design clothes in a 3D printer. Printers don't sew.

Well maybe I didn't know that. It was not very nice to vote against my answer just because I dont know everything about a 3D printer. I dont even know if they've created them, but I just said that that is what I would like to do.
