M$Since a name change doesn't change your social security number, the only thing you are really changing is what people call you. You won't escape connections with former crimes, law suits, etc. That is all a matter of public record--as is the name change. So I would not think he had something to hide.

I know a guy whose last name is Raper. His first name is innocuous, but I feel pretty sure that if it was something like Ash, he'd have changed it, and he's not even running for any kind of office.
