why would you do it?
Tip for best answer: M$0.25
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I would live in a small cabin on a large piece of land and be as self-sufficient as possible, using solar and wind energy and selling any extra I am able to produce (of either electricity or food or goods of some kind) to buy staples I cannot produce or do not know how to produce myself. I would do this for the peace and serenity. I would do this for the peace of mind that I am not dependent on such a fragile social structure as we have today. It's kind of a be-your-own-boss kind of scenario, except there's no customers, no ringing phones, no BS. It's just you and nature and you would do it out of necessity, so the motivation would definitely be there. In my opinion, modern society is overrated and the benefits of such do not outweigh the costs.

Unfortunately, there is no more homestead law. All the land is owned by somebody or some entity and what land is available for sale is either way overpriced or land you could never grow anything on unless you trucked in loads and loads of good dirt. Not to mention the property taxes. It's almost as if someone (either the government or someone else) is trying to keep people from doing such as this. It's a real shame considering how many people would love to do this, how much better it would be for the environment, and how much happier and healthier those people would be.

I've often thought this. I'm saving up to buy an island. You're more than welcome to join me once I reach my goal.

I have thus learned that what we dream for is often the opposite of what we get, and what we are given, are in the end, the very things we have had to take by force, but since you ask me what my past dreams are, I have only one dream... To start up my own video game company, creating 5 games that I have in my mind, and using the money to help those truely in need, and to get the homeless off the streets, since the government doesn't give a damn about any of us!

I would be a movie and musical theater critic so that I would have an excuse to do what I love best. I would be so happy to do this everyday for the rest of my life.
