(Absolutely ruined the movie for us. Life is too beautiful and the original ending so wants to make you cynical. I know that **occasionally** tragic irony happens, but do we really need a movie to remind us of it. Especially a movie that otherwise had a wonderful message for fans to live by?)

I would have ended it with the character of Alex surviving her gunshot wound and being hauled off to an insane asylum. Beth shooting Alex was thrilling to watch, but it let Alex off the hook for her crimes too easily. I'd also have Dan and Beth divorce, not ride off into the sunset together after he unzipped his pants and did it with the first psychotic he ran into while his wife was out of town. There would be a trial where Alex got life in prison, then became 'fatally attracted' to the judge.

I know the movie was kind of like, "that's what you get" type thing. I know worst things have happened in real life. I just would have felt better if the point could have been made without the killing of the children. Of course, then it wouldn't have left an impact on the audience. I am unsure.
