It is possible that racism is an inherited genetic survival trait. What I mean by that is, that in the past, killing off or damaging groups other than the one that you belong to made it more likely that your genes would be the genes passed on. I wonder if this might have been the reason for Neanderthals disappearance.

An inherited genetic survival trait can continue to be passed down even when society has evolved to the point that the gene is no longer a pro survival trait but is actually an anti survival trait. If this is true, then it would suggest that interracial marriage is now a pro survival trait. It seems likely that interracial marriage would contribute to genetic survival because damaging recessive genes are less likely to appear in children who have inherited genes from a wider genetic pool. That would mean that racism is now an anti survival trait.

There is little we can do about inherited genes, but our behavior is not conditioned on our inherited genetic makeup. Each day, we can rise and resolve that "today, I will not allow my inherited racism to damage anyone else and I will not allow it to damage me."

I believe that many "racist" people have no idea that they are racist. To them, that's just they way it is, the way they were raised or they just don't know any other way. Maybe they hate the other race because of a personal vendetta.

Regardless, the act is small minded and not productive and frankly kind of a wasted effort. To simply hate someone (much less an entire race or group) with no reason is ridiculous. Most of it is based on stereotype which we all know are rarely accurate.

I've always tried to make a point to get to know a person before I form any kind of opinion about them and then go from there.

I feel racism is a form of coping for some. When you take something that is different from yours for the sole purpose of demoralizing it into some perverted way of enhancing the way you project your self image you are coping. In some extreme and unfounded instances of racism, racists have put a biblical twist on why being a certain race or sex is better. But if these same people looked and studied the bible we are really from the same gene pool. Race and survival instincts are in no way linked in my opinion. Skin color is no more than a permanent piece of clothing. Skin color, nose shape, mouth shape, etc are attributed to people coming from different climates and regions all over the world. Just like religion racism is something man has created.

It seems that disagreeing with someone who is not of the same culture or race as you makes you a racist. Opinions only count if they come from those who's opinions are just like yours.

Apparently racism has changed in definition in order to create division.

Just asking this question can cause dissent, and opposition (as I read one person said he/she is not a racist at all).

Some do not acknowledge racist behaviors, but just because someone has an impression based on past experiences or education does not make them a racist. If the person is able to determine, through new experiences, that they are not racist based on their new information, then their past beliefs are moot.

Further, racism comes in all colors, white people are not the only ones who can display racism, although that seems to be the consensus, as those of other colors are called "reverse racists". What makes it reverse racism? No such thing. It is just racism, whether it comes from me, a white woman, or from my husband, who is of Mexican descent.

Why ask this question? It seems so negative?

I personally am not racist but i do agree with the irish guy to a point i don't think it's a trait that past to you it's just really what you were raised to and what your mind believes. It's really just the same as one person thinking that their better than another when in all reality were all the same. So in my beliefs it's just what you make your mind believe so its really up to you to be racist or not nobody else. I hope this helps and thanks for asking!!
