My HP laptop, on the other hand, has been trouble. Partly because, because of the Best Buy service plan, I've had to use the incompetent Geek Squad to maintain it, but also because it seems a bit delicate.

Now if I were to answer your question I would have to say Emachine cause I have heard they don't put as much "bloatware" in their computers. Also HP can be expensive for comparable stats on a machine. You can also get some very decent low cost desktops from newegg or dell is another good company.
