If you had to buy a cheap computer which? Emachines vs HP

Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I leased computers for years and owned several different brands. Hp was better than emachine. But the best brand that I owned was Asus. I still have a dozen XP Pro Asus computers that are working just fine.

In my experience I've had nothing bad things to say about e-machines I've used. HP though I think has gotten better from the old days, and is a great company to buy a cheap comp from.

I've owned two eMachines. Both lasted a long time and gave me little, if any trouble. One I still have, though I've just built myself a new, more powerful computer. The low-end eMachines were cheap, effective, and I only moved on because advancing technology made them obsolete.

My HP laptop, on the other hand, has been trouble. Partly because, because of the Best Buy service plan, I've had to use the incompetent Geek Squad to maintain it, but also because it seems a bit delicate.

In my experience buying any machine is not a good buy, honestly the best bet is to try and build a computer from scratch staying in the budget of what you can afford. Even if you don't beat the stats of the HP or Emachine you wont have all the "bloatware" and they wont be subject to proprietary parts.

Now with that in mind I would check out sites like http://www.newegg.com, http://www.dealsvista.com/home, http://www.amazon.com.

Now if I were to answer your question I would have to say Emachine cause I have heard they don't put as much "bloatware" in their computers. Also HP can be expensive for comparable stats on a machine. You can also get some very decent low cost desktops from newegg or dell is another good company.

I used to work at a computer store that sold both eMachines and HPs. The eMachines were generally cheaper than the HP, but they also got returned at a far higher rate than the HPs. When it comes to computers, usually the cheaper machines are cheaper for a reason. They use cheaper parts, cheaper components, and cheaper materials.

Since two years and more I am using my HP Pavilion zd8000 with no problems, and I really can not move to any other laptop. I have tried to use other laptops even more powerful than this one, but two years? It’s a long story.

even recently I brought a new one, HP also, but still using the old one :)

Good luck!
