If you could spend 1 week with a Nikon 80-400 f/4.5-5.6 VR or Sigma 150-500 f/4-6.3 OS which would you pick?
I plan to spend a week at a nature preserve in March. The long reach of the Sigma appeals to me, so does the price when compared to the Nikon. I would like to buy either but the Sigma is much more cost effective. Nikon would likely yeild sharper results though. You can see my dilemma. Kinda want to take the cheaper of the two out for a test drive but the Nikon is o so attractive...

Personally I would take the Nikon over the Sigma. 80-400 is more versatile. 400 is a decent reach and better aperture on the long side than the 500. What is the aperture at 400mm on the Sigma?
I don't know the costs but that would certainly play a part. I have a couple of Sigma lenses on a Canon body and they are... ok. My Sigma 70-300 is the slowest lens to focus that I have ever used.
I would also imagine that the Nikon would be lighter and easier to walk around with. I haven't played with either of these lenses specifically so I'm just talking in general about the specs you listed.
Good luck.
