If the US government can change contracts for homeowners through bankruptcy courts, why can't they change AIG's contracts?
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Well I'm not sure legally they can do it for the homeowners. It will be interesting to see if the banks/lenders push back on this.
I'm guessing that the reason they are not trying is it's to completely different pieces of law. If AIG went into bankruptcy courts they probably could rewrite the executive contracts. But as it is I don't think they legally have any way to do it.
