If the media invaded your neighborhood en masse to cover a juicy story, how would you react to the drama and inconvenience of it all?

The Heene's neighbor reacted by getting confrontational. How would you handle it?

TMZ.com story here: http://www.tmz.com/2009/10/20/richard-falcon-heene-balloon-boy-neighbor-fight-media-news-video/

Wait it out, decline interviews and politely ask media to stay off your property. If they are damaging your property while staking out the subject of their story and you've asked them to move to the street and off your property, then call the non-emergency police line and request police enforcement, patrol or presence because your attempts and requests have been ignored and they are now trespassing on your property. If they are truly disrupting your way of life by blocking your drive way, badgering you after you've already declined to speak to them, making you feel threatened in any way, call the police and let them handle it. They have the ability to enforce the laws the media are breaking. They should know better and should be taking care to not disturb the neighbors' ways of life.

However, if they are taking care; if they are not being overly obnoxious; if they are not blocking driveways or trespassing on personal property (grass and driveways - streets and sidewalks are public property and they have the right to utilize those places); if they are not badgering you after declining interviews...leave them alone and simply ride it out. They'll be gone in a few days when the next big story pops up. It's their job. If they aren't breaking the law, let them do their job.

In the case of the guy who tried to fight the media in the Heene's neighborhood, he was right that the media was endangering his safety and his right to pass through the street properly. However, he was very wrong to become aggressive about it and attempt to start a fight. The media should never overstep their boundaries by trying to stop people in their cars. In the same respect, people should not go to the lengths he did just to remove the media from their neighborhood. He should have let it go after calling the cops rather than let his temper get the best of him.

The saying goes, "You can catch more flies with Honey than with Vinegar". I would be Courteous & Straightforward with any Media Personnel as they are not Endangering Lives, Afflicting Harm, Preventing Traffic, Blocking or Damaging Property. But if that's not the case then just call Law Enforcement.

I would find it very unpleasant if the media invaded my neighborhood to cover a story.

Richard Heene's neighbor becoming confrontational only caused the media to pay more attention to him so if this happened to me I would not be confrontational so that the media would follow me less and consider me a boring neighbor.

Here are some measures I have thought of to keep the media behaved:

If the reporters in my neighborhood were being very noisy and talking loudly then I would record this with a camera for evidence and report them to the police for disturbing the peace.

I would also search the neighborhood and see if any of the vehicles owned by the media parked in the neighborhood were in a no parking zone. If I found any I would also report this to the police.

I would actually be right there in the middle of it. I am a freelance writer, mostly sports but do a bit of everything. However if I wasn't a small part of the media I may be annoyed by it all.

I wouldn't confront them though unless they were doing something dangerous like driving fast around kids out walking or something.

It depends on why the media was invading but I most likely would not be happy. I would keep to myself, avoid speaking to any media...I don't want to get involved. I think the media should know some boundaries....but when there's a story they will scale the side of your house and drill a hole in your roof to get the best version of it...it's ridiculous and I would never enjoy it in my own neighborhood...even if it was my own child missing or whatnot, I don't want my life publisized...but I guess some enjoy it...

I would likely keep to myself and not venture out into the chaos. If someone were to trample my yard or endanger my safety, I would contact the authorities and ask them to intervene.

Well, the best thing you can do is be honest in your answer or simply avoid the media all together.

Personally, I HATE the paparazzi like TMZ - they offer nothing of value to the world and ask the dumbest questions imaginable, not to mention being obnoxious to people who are simply trying to go about their day undisturbed.

In this situation, I kind of don't blame the guy for getting confrontational. I'm sure the community around these folks has grown somewhat protective of this young man (under the circumstances) and folks like TMZ are really not welcome simply because they probably just want to exploit the guy for their own ratings. How would YOU feel?
If the kid was my neighbor, I'd just say that we're all behind the family and have no comment for the media outside of what the family is willing to share. I agree with yall that getting confrontational only makes the situation worse, but still, I don't blame him for being aggrivated as well.
