If the Lakers don't repeat as champions this year, what changes should they make?

Should the Lakers trade Pau Gasol? Should they try and do the rumored deal of a sign and trade with Andrew Bynum and Chris Bosh? Should the Lakers user their mid-level exception to target a point guard? If you were the Mitch Kupchak, what moves would do to improve what could already be argued as the most talented team in the NBA?

The Los Angeles Lakers are a loaded team, but from some things I have heard, not necessarily the best team. It also appears Kobe Bryant has a prima donna attitude and does not get along with Pau Gasol. Then there is Anthony Bynum who appears to live a life of injury, and way too many players who need the ball to reach their maximum potential. The Lakers may repeat as National Basketball Associations champions, but to stay there they may be better off signing or trading for a few role players and dumping some of their aging talent. I also find it hard to believe they would be successful with any coach other than Phil Jackson. Maybe a Chuck Daly type would also be successful, but there are not many of them around. In my opinion, either Bynum or Gasol needs to be moved. There is not enough ball and scoring chances for both of them. Replacing one of them with an Amir Johnson type player would make them even stronger. The kid averaged 20 and 10 when Chris Bosh went down and doesn’t require plays being called for him to have an impact on the game.

The Lakers are strong this season and they have a good chance of bagging this year’s championships. However if the Lakers loses and will eventually be ousted from the 2010 NBA Playoffs I think they will remain intact next season. Lakers are now built to win titles and they are not a rebuilding team, making trades will certainly hurt them. They have a strong frontline (Pau Gasul and Andrew Bynum), fantastic bench and slew of great shooters. They have also Lamar Odom who has a complete game. And the most important of all they have what is considered to be the present best player on the league, which is no other than Kobe Bryant.
There is a cliché that says, “don’t fix that ain’t broken.” The Lakers definitely have the best lineup nowadays and breaking it is not a good idea. The Lakers will just instead bolster its lineup by seeking free agency and scout for players that will suit them and the same time will agree to their offer.

I think the Lakers are on track already to another big championship. Theres not a whole lot of room to improve, being on of the best teams around. It would be great if Lebron James could play with them, but since that is not going to happen, the Andrew Bynum and Chris Bosh trade would be a good idea. Bosh is a very good player and would be a great addition to the team. If I were Mitch Kupchak, I would keep Gasol, and try to do the Bynum Bosh trade. I'd like to see them pull off a back to back championship.
