If the fire dept. sends you a bill for emergency services, are they double dipping, since they are paid with tax $$?

M$There has been a recent trend for municipal fire departments to charge for their services. The theory seems to be that the insurance companies will pay for it. That way your taxes only pay for the general maintenance of the Fire Dept. Then the municipality doesn't have to raise taxes as much. The practice is controversial and banned in some states.
You should turn the bill over to your health insurance company and let them argue about it with the Fire Dept or town.
