If the British arrest the Pope and put him in the Tower of London would it become the world's most popular tourist site?
The eccentric British have recently had a fad for enforcing International Law by trying to arrest visiting foreign dignitaries for Crimes Against Humanity. This is fostered by a very independent judiciary and a very diverse and opinionated populace. The latest target may well be the Pope during his upcoming visit.
There are lots of questions which arise, such as whether the Vatican counts as a proper sovereign state, and whether the crimes alleged (covering up for a pedophile priest) amount to Crimes Against Humanity. But what I want to know is whether, if he were arrested and locked in the Tower, tourism would soar?
And, are you allowed to drink beer if imprisoned in the Tower?

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

imagine this....
The Pope, the ring leader of an international pedophilia racket, is arrested and held in the tower of London.
A huge and unruly mob surround the tower and hold 24 hour / 7 days a week vigil to support their leader.
Protests surrounding the tower get violent and ugly making the tower district unsafe.
Tourism suffers as innocent bystanders are heckled, pushed and shouted at.
The leader is transfered to a maximum security prison of unknown location, probably by the US using a secret flight.
The mob disperse, London gets back to normal, tourism increases.

PS - I'm not sure if you can drink beer in the tower.....perhaps some sacrificial wine?

hmmm, I'm thinking historically, when have any large group of religious followers *not* used violence of some sort when pressed with what they consider 'persecution'
but yes, a sea of candles would be a spectacular view
Well, that's a possible scenario. But I think his supporters would be more likely to hold massive candlelight vigils, which would attract even more tourists.
I didn't think Catholics qualified as a minority religion but perhaps I'm not understanding what you mean.....
its an interesting idea though, I do wonder what would happen if he was 'arrested'
Historically, large groups of religious followers tend to be nonviolent whenever they are clearly the minority religion, with a few fanatic exceptions. There's nothing like being a small minority to encourage nonviolence.
