If the Blackhawks lose the Stanley Cup, will Marian Hossa be the first player in history to lose 3 straight Cups in a row?
As you may know, Marian Hossa has had a rough couple years. In 2008, he was a member of the Pittsburgh Penguins, who lost in the Stanley Cup Finals to the Detroit Red Wings. Then, in 2009, after signing with the Wings, he had to watch the opposing team lift the Cup again, as Detroit lost to Pittsburgh in the finals. Now, he's playing for the Chicago Blackhawks, and he's in the Stanley Cup Finals yet again, this time playing against the Philadelphia Flyers. If the Flyers were to come back and win the Cup, would Marian Hossa be the only player in history to fall short in the Finals 3 years in a row, playing for 3 different teams?

Although we know the outcome, Chicago ended up winning the Cup. However, if they did lose he most certainly would have been the first to lose three times with three different teams.

When the Stanley Cup finals start on Saturday, Hossa will become the first player to play in three consecutive Stanley Cup finals for three different teams. A statistical oddity, yes.

However, there have been occasions when teams have lost the Stanley Cup finals three years in a row in most cases the teams are relatively unchanged.
The 1938,39 and 1940 Toronto Maple Leafs lost 3 straight cups with many of the same players notably Syl Apps.
The 1968,69, and 1970 St. Louis Blues lost three cups in a row with Scotty Bowman behind the bench and Glenn Hall in net. So it has happened before.
