If ssid broadcast is turned off, do wifi access points broadcast anything when not in use?

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

According to Galen Gruman of dailywireless.com, he reported that: "With SSID broadcasting turned off, your access points and routers still have SSIDs. But users have to know that they’re in range rather than depend on seeing the network name pop up in their connection software;.......Whether SSID broadcasting is turned on or off, note that if you don’t provide an SSID for your routers and access points, they’ll typically have a name like Default or the name based on their model number."

Thanks for responding. While you answer was interesting, it did not answer my question. I was not as interested in knowing if ssids were needed to establish a connection with an access point. The question was more about whether the access point broadcasts out anything when not in use. Thanks for trying to answer the question.
