If someone in your town organized a meeting about corruption in your local police force, and you agreed, would you go, or fear persecution?

(persecution from said police force for attending so not attend due to this fear)
Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Our city police force is so corrupt, it's not funny. They don't scare me, though. I'd go to the meeting in a heartbeat. I've had the police here come to my house asking about someone I know who doesn't even live here, and want to come into my house. I politely say that unless they have a court order, they need to leave my yard. They have told me that they can come in if they want to, and ORDERED me to step outside, and I said no, and closed the door in their faces. I haven't had any retribution, but they don't like me at all. I never call our local police unless it's an UBER emergency.

That's about how it is here. We've also had some questionable shootings.. by police officers. The town actually voted to not have a local police since we have an alaska troopers station in our town.. but.. they built it anyway.

Yes, I would definitely attend. I believe that citizens have an obligation to fight against corruption. After all, law enforcement is doing those things in OUR name. They have no authority except for the authority that we grant them. When we allow them to become corrupt, they are committing illegal and immoral acts with our blessing. That makes us as guilty of the crimes as they are.

It's a myth that people can't stop corruption. Small groups of passionate individuals are the only thing that has ever changed the world. Apathy is the enemy of freedom and justice.

I would be the first one there as I know this old boy network exists in all these small towns.

I haven't thought too much about this, but I'm not sure there's ever any way I'd attend a meeting. If corruption wasn't a concern in my mind, I definitely wouldn't go (wouldn't want to waste my time). If it was a concern, then yes, I'd probably worry about the repercussions and still not go. While I'm not sure what all the other options would be, I wonder if having a meeting or open forum really is the best way to get something done. Why not take to YouTube, start blogs, buy TV airtime or do something a little more noticeable and disruptive? If I wasn't sure the meeting was going to make a huge difference, I'd be even more apprehensive about going and having my name and reputation involved.

If you pay taxes corruption is a concern of yours. To shorten an old saying:
First they went afeter the Jews, what did I care I'm not Jewish
then they went after the Blacks, what did I care I'm not Black
then they went after the Spanish, what did I care I'm not Spanish
then they came for me, but there was noone left to ask for help.
