If Louis Pasteur were alive, what would he say about the people who refuse to drink to pasteurized milk?

There are those that believe that pasteurization destroys many, if not all the natural benefits of raw milk. While science shows that bacteria in raw milk is potentially harmless, like any other raw food, some still feel that pasteurization was never meant for milk.

While pasteurization did develop out of investigation of what is now termed, "Germ Theory" by Louis Pasteur, it is simply the process of heating any organic material to rid it of unwanted and harmful bacterial microbes. It is not a process that is specific to wine, beer, etc.

Louis Pasteur may still have some valid arguments against people drinking raw milk. While many of the reasons to drink pasteurized milk versus raw milk have been debunked, there is still one reason that may make us think twice about drinking milk fresh from the cow.

The reason is listeriosis. Listeriosis is a bacterial infection and while the incidence in humans is very low it can be life threatening especially in unborn children and pregnant women. Listeriosis can also cause meningitis, if it spreads to the spinal cord and the brain stem.

Of course nothing is foolproof and even with pasteurization people may still contract listeriosis. It can also be contracted by other foods both dairy and non.
