If I work out of town, what can I deduct from my taxes?
I live in one town(Charleston, SC) with my wife, but because of inability to get work locally, I have taken a job in a town 100 miles away (in Columbia, SC). I drive up to Columbia Sunday night and back to Chareleston Thursday night. I maintain a residence where my new job is since I am there four days a week. At this residence I pay rent, electricity, and internet. I use the internet for both personal and work use, but I do absolutely need it for my work. I also drive around Columbia for work in my personal car, to and from two different jobs sites, and up and back from my Columbia residence. I pay for meals in Columbia from my income, and also have some reasonable entertainment expenses in Columbia.
My wife and I also pay rent for a residence in our original town, where she works, along with all the expenses of that residence.
So what of all of this is deductible as related to working in another town?
I figure the mileage definitely is, but am not sure if it is just the travel from Charleston and Columbia and back or that travel plus the travel from the Columbia residence to work. Can I deduct the cost of the columbia residence? Any meals? Entertainment? Utilities?

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I'd talk to a tax adviser to me sure, but in general, the transportation to and from your residence to your job is not deductible. The cost of maintaining the Columbia residence is probably also not deductible, unless you're required by your employer to maintain it, then you might be able to claim that costs that were exclusively related to your employment under a home office deduction.
Mileage for work related driving within Charleston would be deductible.
