about Alien (Film)
If I were to watch Alien or Aliens which would be best to watch first? I know how they're ordered chronologically but which is best?

I think you should watch both of them, in the order that they were filmed (Alien before Aliens). The reason being is that they are VERY different types of movies.
*very minor SPOILER ALERT*
Alien:
A horror movie that introduces you to the idea of the Alien and the character Ripley. The movie slowly building suspense followed by sudden suprises. The stages of the Alien life cycle are revealed to maximum creepy effect. There isn't much action and it's more psychological.
Aliens:
A sci-fi action flick; a shoot 'em up battle between people and monsters. This movie realizes that Alien already artfully explained everything and is more about fighting Aliens. There are a few moments were something jumps out and goes "boo!" to deliver a scare, but it is much more of an action movie than a psychological one.
If you see Aliens first, it will defeat the entire purpose of sitting throw the slow creepy build up as bits and pieces of the alien life cycle is revealed to you. It wouldn't ruin the movie per se, but it would definitely cheat you out of a fun emotional response to it.
Which is better? It's tough call, but I'd have to say Alien. I've seen plenty of "shoot the monster" movies, but very few that so artfully build suspense, reveal details at the correct time and really pull you into to the film. Aliens is a very good movie, but doesn't seem as rare within it's genre the way Alien does.
When you watch Aliens, make sure you get the directors cut/extended version. The theatrical version cut out some really cool scenes and a few short but very important scenes that help everything make sense. The longer version is really what made me a fan of the film.
