If I have really dark hair, is it still possible to dye it blonde?

It is possible to bleach very dark hair blonde, but it is not a job for an amateur and some thought should be given to the decision first.
Consider first the fact that you will have to have the roots bleached to match every month, hair grows at around 1/2 inch a month and there are few looks less attractive than bleached blonde hair with black roots. The roots will always look really dark compared with the rest of your hair and it is almost impossible to re-touch them yourself.
When the color is being removed from dark hair, because that is what the bleach does, the removal includes various stages including the red which will appear as the hair is lightened. This is a job for a professional, try it yourself and if you don't know exactly what you are doing and you can end up with bright orange hair which is in terrible condition.
Bleach is not kind to hair and it will need lots of conditioning. Talk to a hairdresser first and ask her advice.
