If ex-Gov. Palin were to go to jail for violating the Endangered Species Act would her supporters still vote for her?

Suppose she shot a Polar Bear and was sentenced to the maximum 1 year in jail, and she was running for President. Would her supporters still vote for her? Would you? I am asking this question because when I asked about the hypothetical situation of Debs winning the 1920 election the answerers had trouble imaging voting for someone in jail (almost a million voters did).

Given the numerous gaffes during the campaign made by Palin without loss of their support, my guess is they would continue to back her if she was in jail. It may even be a plus, suiting those with a "maverick" streak (sigh). Debs isn't a current, emotional-level pick like Palin, so the same criteria wouldn't apply.

I'm using my father-in-law as an example of a typical Palin supporter. To be blunt, her appeal to him is that she is pro-gun and he'd like to sleep with her. Neither of those things would change if she was to shoot something and be incarcerated.

It depends on how some of her supporters feel about the Endangered animals cause. Some may stick with her because it is human rights over animal rights and maybe she shot the bear accidentally. I think she may lose some voters but maybe not all depends on how close they are to the cause.

The main thrust of this question is whether her being in jail would affect her supporters. We know they don't like the Endangered Species Act already. You think then that they would believe something like she shot the bear accidentally and shouldn't have been sent to jail? Or maybe that it was self defense, as she had seen the Russians smuggling SAM's to the bears that could have shot down her plane? Could be.

Well, some would and some wouldn't. A clever political operator could leverage a prison term into an advantage.

Me? I wouldn't vote for her because of that picture. She has her finger on the trigger but isn't looking at the target? People who don't know how to work a gun should avoid touching them until they do.

I believe that it is a loaded question. What if I were to ask you the same question but instead of Sarah Palin I put in Barack Obama. What would the answer be? Would he go to jail? Would it be swept under the rug? I believe that there would be two totally different answers to that question.

This question, as I said, relates to another question I asked concerning the Socialist candidate Debs in 1920. There really isn't anything to be loaded about. For some reason people were having trouble imagining a candidate in jail getting votes, so this question tries to put it in perspective. It has nothing to do with someone escaping going to jail, you are misreading the question. I could have asked what if Obama was in jail for breaking some Federal law, if I had thought of a likely one, but that would not have helped the conservatives understand the situation. Liberals already understood because Debs was in jail for speaking out against the draft. You are evidently an example of someone who cannot look at a legal question without turning it into some entirely different partisan argument. Please read my original question, and this question, and think about the constitutional aspects and the voter support aspects. If that's all too hard, answer someone else's questions.
