If cupcakes are going to be outside for awhile, what is the best kind of frosting to use that won't melt?

I want to make extra large frosted cupcakes to sell at our local flea market. I have fondant roses to put on top, but I'm afraid that the frosting might melt or become runny and ruin the whole effect. I've looked into frosting made with lard, sour cream frosting and royal icing, but I'm not sure which kind of frosting would be the best to use if it's warm out (we usually get up to about 60 degrees.
Tip for best answer: M$5.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Buttercream frosting is stable enough to stand up to heat, but fondant is recommend for outdoor cakes . The fondant will not melt or attract insects as much as a Buttercream frosting. Good luck!

Fondant is an edible concoction involving gelatin, glucose, shortening, glycerin and sugar. You don’t even need to make your own rolled fondant; it’s sold in ready-to-use packages, in white as well as multi packs of pre-tinted pastel, neon, natural or primary colors by Wilton and other companies. See the link.

Buttercream frosting taste the best and lasts a long time. It doesn't have to be refrigerated and can stand up to some pretty good heat. My favorite recipe is from Wilton http://www.wilton.com/recipe/Buttercream-Icing

If you're looking for a butter cream style frosting, one made with shortening (Crisco, for example) might work. However, you'll be compromising flavor for performance.
