If a parent passed away and you were their "beneficiary", what are the Life Insurance companies or organizations to search for the policy?

I know my mother had some kind of policy but lost all access to her things from a half sister who took over the situation. My mother had told me that I was her beneficiary about a year before she died. I had forgotten this in my bereavement but now I seek answers about what kind of benefits I might be entitled. I have tried to contact the half sister and she refuses to give me any answers. My mother also had almost all of my possessions at the time she passed which I was never allowed to retrieve, or anything of my mothers. It has been over two years and I dont know what to do.

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

This is the type of situation in which you need to contact a lawyer. You are clearly entitled to the information that the half sister has and, at the very least, your belongings. A lawyer can give you the best advice and assistance in how to proceed. Some lawyers offer free consultations. I don't know what area you are from, or I would have researched some lawyers for you. Take the time to look up some local lawyers, hopefully finding one who has dealt with beneficiary cases. Call around among those lawyers to find one who offers a free consultation. That way, if (s)he doesn't think (s)he can help, you haven't wasted any money. However, I'm sure you'll be able to find a lawyer who will want to take on this case.
