I'd like to hack an old fashioned ball-mouse to make a DIY Contour RollerMouse, any advice?

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Looking at a video of the RollerMouse, converting a laser mouse would be much easier than trying to convert a ball mouse. The RollerMouse rolls and slides. The roll part would be easy, but you'd have to figure out how to attach the second sensor for the sliding part. I cannot think of an easy way to do it with an old ball-mouse.

Meaning a new 'body'?
If so lots of ways.

Floral arrangement foam and carve/sand to shape, then cover in fiberglass and resin. Pull out the for and your done, sans the buttons. (could even use carbon fiber for a cool look. or a kevlar/carbon mixed cloth for really cool look)

Stuff called ShapeLock ( http://shapelock.com/ ) just heat to about 150F in water and its moldable
and as a footnote, JB weld can be thinned out with acetone

No, you mis-understood the question. Contour is a Brand Name and RollerMouse is a new style of ergonomic mouse.
