I would like to buy a watch for my brother who is being commissioned into the navy? Any recommendations?
- Water resistant to 200 -300 meters
- No battery as replacing the battery improperly mostly invalidates the water resistancy.
- Without a battery, would prefer an auto-winding watch. Any other technology that removes the need for winding a non-battery watch is ok
- luminous dial
- Has useful features for a navy person - lat/longitude etc would be preferred
My budget is 500 USD
I am a big fan of tech advances. So I would not prefer to buy any swiss watch with myriad complications that can be accomplished by a 25$ casio. (Anyway no swiss watch under USD 500 I guess).
A watch that is purely digital is also fine.
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

- Personal Experience.
I paid over 500$ USD for my Suunto X9m and it was worth every penny.
Granted by this time it is coming apart a little.
(Which was due in part from my dog getting ahold of it)
But the watch still runs beautifully even after suffering the tortures of my black lab. My home was also broken into one night and the guy tried to attack me with a bat. I put my arm up and the bat hit the watch.
It came out of that without A scratch on it.
- Products.
Some of there watches have inductive charging.
As well as the ability to hookup the watch to A computer and use it with google maps.
I highly recommend you look at their entire line.
Just a tip.
You can pickup the X10m (Military version (with military GPS) for 400 off ebay.
The main difference between the regular X10 and the X10m is the military GPS is specifically calibrated to search for satellites in other parts of the globe. The X10m is also pressurized differently and has A better tolerance to harsh environments and is more water resistant.
Suunto also has A badass product chooser located here.

PS:
Here are the specs on the X10
o Use the improved GPS with stronger signal and quicker fix for safe navigation
o Keep your hands free with the smallest, lightest outdoor GPS wristop computer
o Monitor altitude, barometric pressure, up to 50 routes, 500 waypoints, and tracks, as well as speed, and distance with precision
o Record your journey and share it on Google Earthâ„¢
o Includes altimeter, barometer and compass functions
o Take your time on the trail with the longer lasting battery
o Water resistant up to 100 meters / 330 feet
Kind Regards,
XDS
By the way:
If wrist top computers are not really your style you could check out the new subaqua reserve venom.
It has many of the features of the Subaqua Noma III ...
...(One of the most expensive watches in the known world)
Except for the true moon phase and crown clasp.
At 1/10th the price.
Don't let the crown fool you either it screws down.

Thanks...
The Suunto is a bit expensive,, and doesnt look that great... Also replacing the battery might screw up the water resistance...
I have decided to go with the Casio Pathfinder PAG80T-7V. Titanium strap, solar power, compass, altimeter, baromoeter, thermometer. Only thing missing is the sea tides feature
@wdawe
I agree wdawe, loose the site keep the juke box mix :)
I wonder if that casio is indoor solar or outdoor solar, this would be important because if your brother is ever stationed in A low light area the watch would always default to battery power.
By the way @jacobarun I have loads more information on watches.
Me and my brother own a jewelry company and I wouldn't hesitate to help you further.
Those are some bad ass watches. Invicta really does need to redesign their website though, it hurts my eyes.
