I woke up this morning and discovered that my PS3 will no longer show when games are inserted.

I have reset, downloaded the latest software, changed games, tested on another PS3 (game worked), nothing seems to work. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

My friend, you have encountered what I did over three months ago... I had the same problem, but with Blu-ray movies. It is a hardware malfunction, if troubleshooting it doesn't resolve this problem. I had to send mine in twice with this problem, before it was fixed. Hopefully you're still within the year of the original purchase of the PS3, or have an extended warranty if it isnt. You will need to call Sony PlayStation and go through the troubleshooting steps via phone, afterwards make sure you speak to a representative and discuss your error. He/She will then type in a work-order and give you a transaction/work number, and initiate the sending of a box to pack and send your PS3 to the depot. If you don't want to go the route of the phone, you can also use the online route: http://www.us.playstation.com/PS3

Here you will follow the same steps, but you will be typing in your problem after it gives you the troubleshooting steps. Make sure you type in a valid email address, as they will send your workorder number to that. You will need the workorder number when the package comes to put your PS3 in.

When your package comes there will be a plastic wrap to place your PS3 in and a cradle to then set your PS3 inside. Paperwise you will need to fill out the form they send, with your workorder number and again the problem you're having. Along with this paperwork, you will need to send a COPY of your original purchase receipt. They will need this for verification. Make sure you send them only a copy, as you will not recieve it upon return. When you reieve your PS3 agian, make sure you test it in its entirety, and contact them if there are any discrepancies. Along with the PS3 they should send you a 90 day warranty, make sure you keep this paper! I've sent mine in 4 times total now, and that warranty helped me my last send-in.

Sunday 7:00 a.m. 6:30 p.m

It may not be because it is broken, so MAKE SURE you use the troubleshooting steps as instructed by SONY.com or via telephone.

That's very unfortunate, you should still call them and see if they can repair it without a receipt. They should have some kind of record depicting when you bought it, I know Microsoft knows exactly when you bought your system as soon as you purchase it. So, I don't see how Sony can refuse to fix it, because you dont have the receipt. I would at least try, I'd hate to have it be a waste of money ya know? Make sure you keep your new PS3 receipt as well, you never know what will happen.

I just ended up going out an buying a new one. Mine was almost a year out
of warranty, and I can't find the reciept, so it Sony wouldn't accept it for repair anyway.
