I will be traveling to Singapore in February. Where can I buy high quality electronics there?

Preferably those who have experience buying computers and other electronics (cell phones come to mind) in Singapore, Singapore could answer this question for me.
Tip for best answer: M$5.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

The electronics in Singapore are one of the cheapest in the Southeast Asian region and tons of people flock into the country to buy electronics. You will find an impressive array of electronic goods to purchase and bring back home.

I’d like to recommend the top 5 best places to buy consumer electronics in Singapore. So here goes!

1. Sim Lim Square

That famous complex called Sim Lim Square is one great place to buy consumer electronics in Singapore.

http://www.virtualtourist.com/travel/Asia/Singapore/Singapore-1495679/Shopping-Singapore-Sim_Lim_Square-BR-1.html

If you’re looking for a rare digital camera or a digital camcorder, Sim Lim Square is the place to go. The place is also known for its amazing variety of computer hardware and peripherals.

2. Funan The IT Mall

Now, this place is more up-market compared to Sim Lim Square and essentially, it boasts a very wide range of consumer electronics.

Again, digital cameras and camcorders steal the show in this place, along with computer hardware. If you want stuff like plasma TVs and LCD TVs, its not exactly a good place to get it.

3. Harvey Norman

These stores are open all over the island, usually in one of the new town areas. If you step into Funan the IT Mall, there’s a Harvey Norman store inside too. Harvey Norman is a great place to buy consumer electronics in Singapore.
Usually, the goods and prices are standard and you can be assured that you aren’t being ripped off when purchasing stuff from them. Do remember that the store likes to offer an extended warranty on purchases – if you do not need this, insist to the store assistant that you don’t need it – they can be quite persistent sometimes.

4. Courts

If you’ve been around Singapore more, you’ll find a store called Courts which is a competitor (of sorts) to Harvey Norman. The Courts store contains electronic items for sale too, albeit in much less variety compared to Harvey Norman. However, I do find that the stuff sold at Courts are very cheap – be careful about quality though – make sure you inspect the goods before shelling out cash. This is just to be safe.

This was definitely the most thorough response out of all of the answers given. I spoke with another traveler from Singapore this morning, and most of what she told me reflects what you've written here. Thanks.

If you’re in the know, then the absolute best place to buy electronics in Singapore has got to be Sim Lim Square.

Read carefully: it says to NOT buy anything from the 1st or 2nd floor (you could get screwed over).

Here's a like to really detailed information: http://www.best-singapore-vacation.com/singapore-sim-lim-square.html

I hope this helps :)
have fun!

If you are looking for choice & selection and lots of shoppers then Sim Lim Square (SLS) but go to the higher floors. Personally I go straight to Paris Silk in Holland Village, saves me from having to deal with too many choices and the prices are decent without having to worry that I am paying too much.

This is THE place to go, but do your home work first and look for shops with pricelists posted outside their shops. Sim Lim Square at http://gothere.sg/directions#:sim%20lim%20square and guide at http://hardwarezone.com.sg/priceguide/

SimLim Square by a mile. You'll find all kinds of electronics, computers are on 4th to 6th floor. Funan IT mall is also good, but it's a relatively higher end mall and so it'll be a bit more expensive, but you tend to feel a little safer buying from Funan. Nevertheless SimLim is safe given that you're buying from Singapore where they will kane you for any illegal dealings.

You can try Sim Lim Square. You can find all kind of Electronics goods there. For more detail, you can visit http://www.singaporemirror.com/co_simlimsq.htm

Just tell any cab driver that you want to go "Sim Lim Square", they will drop you without asking any questions about how to reach :)

There is another mall called "Funan Centre". You can try that one also but you may need to pay little extra as it is considered as a higher end electronics mall.
