If you are planning on for entertainment like movies and games, you may need a powerful laptop. If you just want for internet and email, a normal laptop would be enough.
If you are going for a powerful laptop, it would be billing you upto 1000$-1100$ like HP Pavilion HDX16.
If you are OK with a normal laptop, you can finish within about 800$. For example, HP TouchSmart tx2z Tablet PC.
I am forcing you to buy HP. But it is a popular brand for quality. Choose the PAVILION series when buying and HP laptop.

M$If you need a lapy for work then go for Dell or Sony otherwise purchase a netbook (mini-laptops). It will cost you less than a laptop, they are small in size , handy, portable & sleek. I am having one and m in love with my netbook (based on Intel Atom processor).
