I think I'm allergic to my down comforter. Is there a cover I can buy that'll make it hypoallergenic or do I have to buy a synthetic one?

Tip for best answer: M$2.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Yes, you can buy hypoallergenic covers. They also come for the mattress and pillows. Here is a link on Amazon for the covers. But places like Bed, Bath & Beyond also carry them. If that is going to get too pricey for you, you may just have to sacrifice your nice, new down comforter and buy a hypoallergenic synthetic one.

You can purchase what is called a Duvet cover. You place your down comforter right inside of the duvet and they come in several colors and styles. You can purchase them just about anywhere you purchase bed coverings.

Hope this helps !!

Yeah, we already have our down comforter in a cover but it doesn't "seal" in the feathers that seem to be aggravating my allergies. I think we've just decided to get a synthetic comforter instead.

Thanks for your time!

No, you can not just cover it. I am allergic to down also and tried covers, nothing works, you will have to just get a hypoallergenic synthetic. Don't mess around with covers you will just waste money. It is not worth losing sleep over your allergies. as soon as I changed to synthetic my allergy was totally gone.

Yup, we got a new synthetic one at Ikea the other night and I'm now sleeping much better. Thanks!
