I saw "ruighe nan clach" in an old magazine about Scotland. What does it mean?

Tip for best answer: M$0.25
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

First I found a listing of Scottish Places which listed it as a ruined Keeper's house and meaning "Sheil of the stones"
Then A Scottish Gaelic to English dictionary showed these definitions
-----------------------------------------------------Quote---------------------------------------------------------------------------
ruig va.+heachd and +sinn, reach, extend to, arrive at, attain to : cha ruig mi leas, I need not
ruig in : gu ruig, to, so far as, until

'nan in their; precedes n. beginning with vow. or con. other than p,b,f,m

clach nf. g. cloiche; d. cloich; pl.+an, stone
-----------------------------------------------------Quote---------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Ruighe nan clach" means "shieling of the stones" in Scottish Gaelic.

A shieling is a hut or shelter. It can also mean a high pasture.

There's an old love song about a girl who lives in a "shieling lorn" - a hut way up the mountain.
