I play WoW, but money has gotten tight lately. What are some good free or almost free MMOs? I don't like ones with cutesy anime graphics
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Also Lord of the Rings Online, also free with additional purchases being optional. http://www.lotro.com/
Both of these have large universes, and a lot of players,

It's a paired matching tank game that (while not specifically an MMO) does rely on skilling, grinding, and blowing up tanks! It's in Beta at the moment and game keys are usually distributed a day or two after you submit for one. It's not as in-depth and "large world" as WOW or LOTR (think Team Fortress as opposed to an MMORPG) but it IS fun, and it IS free.
I used to play Guild Wars (http://www.guildwars.com/) which, while you had to pay for the initial game, was free. That was a very beautiful world. Actually....think I might go back to it. There goes my tanks...
Good luck!
