I play WoW, but money has gotten tight lately. What are some good free or almost free MMOs? I don't like ones with cutesy anime graphics

Tip for best answer: M$2.01
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

You could try Dungeons & Dragons Online, it's free with premium features for purchase. http://www.ddo.com/

Also Lord of the Rings Online, also free with additional purchases being optional. http://www.lotro.com/

Both of these have large universes, and a lot of players,

Well to start you off, here are two sites I go to for reviews and news about free MMOs:
www.mmohut.com
www.onrpg.com

Here are the most popular WOW clones. (Free + optional premium items store)
-Runes of Magic
http://mmohut.com/review/runes-of-magic

-Perfect World
http://mmohut.com/review/perfect-world

-Allods Online
http://mmohut.com/review/allods-online

-Lord of The Rings (Originally Pay2Play. Now Free2Play)
http://mmohut.com/review/the-lord-of-the-rings-online

-Aika Online
http://mmohut.com/review/aika

Here are some other popular MMOs:
-Vindictus (instanced dungeons. You can break stuff in the environment and action oriented/button mashing...pretty new and different than most free mmo's)
http://mmohut.com/review/vindictus

-Dungeons and Dragons Online (Turned F2P)
http://mmohut.com/review/dungeons-and-dragons-online

-Dragon Oath
http://mmohut.com/review/dragon-oath

Hope that gets you started. Tried to steer away from any cutesy anime graphics or P2P games.

I currently play Eve Online and have several accounts but I've been pulled away! By this:

http://www.worldoftanks.com/

It's a paired matching tank game that (while not specifically an MMO) does rely on skilling, grinding, and blowing up tanks! It's in Beta at the moment and game keys are usually distributed a day or two after you submit for one. It's not as in-depth and "large world" as WOW or LOTR (think Team Fortress as opposed to an MMORPG) but it IS fun, and it IS free.

I used to play Guild Wars (http://www.guildwars.com/) which, while you had to pay for the initial game, was free. That was a very beautiful world. Actually....think I might go back to it. There goes my tanks...

Good luck!
