I need more decent sci-fi movies to watch. Any recommendations? Anything is welcome. Classic or modern. Obscure-yet-good films are a plus.

Tip for best answer: M$0.25
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

The unknown quantity here is what you may already have seen. I will go ahead with my recommendations anyway, and hopefully you might not have seen some of these. You have probably seen some of the more recent ones, but here goes anyway; they're all pretty good, and some are absolute classics. Go to IMDB.com and check them out to see what you think:

Abyss, The (1989)
Capricorn One (1977)
Colossus: The Forbin project (1970) *obscure*
Core, The (2003)
Day the Earth stood still, The (1951)
Destination Moon (1950) *obscure*
Earth vs the flying saucers (1956)
Fantastic voyage (1966)
Forbidden planet (1956)
Galaxy quest (1999)
Marooned (1969) *obscure*
Mission to Mars (2000)
Predator (1987)
Robinson Crusoe on Mars (1964) *obscure*
Saturn 3 (1980)
Sphere (1998)
Star Wars (1977)
Supernova (2000/2001)
The fifth element (1997)
The final countdown (1980)
This island Earth (1955) *obscure*
Voyage to the bottom of the sea (1961)
When worlds collide (1951) *obscure*

I am a "classic sci-fi" nut, so this is right up my alley. This list includes some of the best sci-fi's ever made by Hollywood. Some of them are a bit rare, so you might not be able to get those, but it would be worth a try anyway. Hope you enjoy!
