I need complicated patent diagrams. Possible tattoo.

Hey,
I'm thinking of getting a tattoo somewhere on my body (not quite sure on location yet). But I'm thinking of getting a really complicated looking diagram of some invention or machine. Maybe from patent documents?

Send me photos and links of what you think is the best diagram to put in ink.
Tip for best answer: M$2.30
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I think any of da Vinci's inventions or drawings make great ink.

He made some drawings of siege engines:

Flying machines:

Engines:

Math Diagrams:

And the best part is, they're already drawings so converting them to ink is cake!

Oh, and it's likely that you'll be free to use the diagrams (no patent pending to my knowledge). If you used someone else's diagrams they might be able to object to your use or someone else making money off of their design. HIGHLY unlikely, but hey. Something to consider.

After looking at your answer @silverhammer, I imagined the wing drawing as a tattoo on a back. Since Leonardo did much of his drawings in 'mirror' mode, you could copy and reverse so you'll have one on each shoulder.
Wow... cool!

Here's the thing, I'm entering you awfully LATE in the AOTD contest! So if anyone would like to scurry over there and show your support, it would be awfully appreciated!

I love that. Great idea!

It would be cool to add some of his notes somewhere too. But do your homework and make sure you know what it says for sure.

It'd be silly to show off some of the work and have someone comment, "why'd you put a grocery list on your skin". :)

I already posted my favorite idea, which is the Leonardo wing, but that would really only look good on the back.

I really started to think about your question and the ideas are limitless!
I would try to narrow it down to a patent drawing of something that you're interested in, or something that inspires you.
After all... it will be there for the rest of your life!

In coming up with my own tattoo ideas, I would first decide on a location
(ankle, neck or back)
Then, think about what I wanted to display there.
Some places are more private and will not always be seen, whereas other areas will have more "show" time.

After looking at designs for you, I decided that I couldn't pick one since there are just too many categories.

This was the coolest patent diagram I found while surfing today, but I'm not sure it would make a good tattoo.

Happy hunting!

I totally agree thatv the patent diagrams are the way to go. I also agree that this specific one is pretty cool looking, though I'm really interested in the complexity of a machine. I'm going to school to become an engineer and I just love looking at the way things work and are put together. So I guess I'm leaning towards a diagram of like planetary gears or something similar.

Wow... that sounds cool!
Maybe you could take a picture of it when you're done and post it as your avatar.
You'll know the perfect one when you see it!

Well, a few different types of diagrams

simple electronic

( I like the 'energy leak detector' )

and this one had old kitchen gadgets - I know not exactly what you asked but wow, they are interesting, the whole site is :)

You could also search the US Patent Office files
http://www.uspto.gov/main/profiles/acadres.htm

And a simple image search on Google turns up some amazing things :)

wow, cool pic!
