I need an opinion about Magnolia CMS

Is it good?, how it does compare to joomla or mambo? how well it fits for a website oriented to deliver content to mobile phones?
Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Hi Dtriana,

I've personally evaluated Magnolia for use in a mixed web / mobile environment.

I found that it did a pretty good job. I particularly liked the Sitedesigner features that they recently released. It's quite easy to implement design features in Magnolia. This really comes in handy for mobile environments that often require at least 1 (sometimes a few) different layouts to make the site look it's best.

The Magnolia support is also second to none. They really focus on solving problems and can help with just about anything.

Personally, I didn't choose to use Magnolia. Joomla is a very good option and has it's own advantages.

This decision really comes down to your abilities or the abilities of your development staff. If you're outsourcing this project, go with Joomla because it's well known. However, pick what you or your dev's are the most comfortable with.

The gaps between features, functions, speed, etc are closing and while there are still "best solution" CMS' for a variety of needs, based on your question, I'd say it really doesn't matter.

You can go to cmsmatrix to compare different cms's together feature wise (including magnolia). Just select the cms's you want to compare and hit the compare button, and voila, some nice easy to read charts comparing the things you've selected. While it won't tell you everything, it helps a lot.

Hi Dtriana,

thanks for asking this question. You specifically are interested to deliver to mobile platforms. Magnolia 4.0, which will be final later this week, introduces "Supersonic Templating" which will give you a head start for mobile platforms as well as for any other web content delivery. It includes what we call a "Standard Templating Kit" that provides a lot of functionality like Teasers, Tabbed Teasers & Groups of Teasers, Image Gallery, support for microformats, SEO-optimization, Sites, Accessibility and many others. Specifically, the STK provides page templates that adjust to the client view port, in other words, we make maximal use of the space you have. If you view a page with a small screen (mobile) the content is rearranged, as it will be if you visit the page with a wide screen. For details, see

@Robbrown: thanks for the kudos! I will let them know.

Regards
Boris
